ECM Jarrett

MIDEM 2013

Keith Jarrett’s celebrated encounter with the Trinity organ of Ottobeuren’s Benedictine abbey.

“Hymns/Spheres”, Keith Jarrett’s celebrated 1976 encounter with the Trinity organ of Ottobeuren’s Benedictine abbey, is at last released in its entirety on CD in this double-disc set prepared from the original analog tapes. “No overdubs or technical ornamentations were utilized, only the pure sound of the organ in the abbey is heard”. The pure sound, as channelled by the mind, hands, and feet of one of the great improvisers of the age. When “Hymns/Spheres” was first released in 1976, some critics made comparisons with the organ music of Ligeti, Messiaen and Reger, but time has shown this to be an essential expression of Jarrett’s creativity, original to the core. Pure Audio Blu-ray on DECCA

Ring

Solti's historic "Der Ring des Nibelungen" released on Pure Audio Blu-ray by Decca Classics

msm-studios have just authored their first Pure Audio Blu-ray for a major label, which is the latest addition to their list of 30+ authored Pure Audio Blu-ray releases: the world famous recording of Sir Georg Solti's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" on Decca. The Pure Audio Blu-ray – developed by the technical team at msm-studios – is an innovative part of a luxury edition to celebrate what would have been Sir Georg's 100th anniversary. The Pure Audio Blu-ray stands among a vast array of features in the box: from the Ring on 14 CDs, and an introduction to the piece by Wagner scholar Deryck Cooke on 2 CDs, to a facsimile of Sir Georg’s original score of the "Ride of the Valkyries", unseen photographs from the recording session, and the BBC documentary "The Golden Ring" on DVD.

The Pure Audio Blu-ray holds the 24-bit remastered version of this "greatest recording of all time" (BBC Music Magazine, January 2012). To navigate through the four operas that make up the "Ring", an original concept using the colour buttons on the BD-player remote control has been developed. Instead of audio streams, the four individual operas are allocated to the colour buttons. Therefore, like all Pure Audio Blu-rays authored by msm-studios, this release can be used without a screen, in a process that is as simple as using a CD player.

Maestro at the Hofbräuhaus

Maestro at the Hochbräuhaus

Johannes Müller – recording engineer and tonmeister with msm-studios – records with Lorin Maazel and the horn section of the Munich Philharmonics.

And where did all this happen? In a venue that couldn´t be more appropriate: the big hall of the Munich Hofbräuhaus! Ten marches were recorded with Lorin Maazel, which make the first part of the CD. The second part of the recordings will follow in March with Zubin Mehta. Watch the video about the recordings, and read more about the "Maestro in the inn" in the Friday issues of the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

The CD with both maestros will be released in July 2013.
